The developers have been working hard to finish the plugin system and desktop which will become the heart of Cairo. From there, development will begin on the new explorer and a list of desktop-enhancing plugins. Work will also begin on creating a simple, accessible, and easy to use system for accessing the entire Cairo system. Plugins in the Cairo system will be easily toggled on and off, a breeze to configure to your liking, and easy to maintain and update. These will include a “Start’ replacement, Desktop switching, Application grouping, and other goodies. Once these are complete, an alpha build MAY be released. However, we haven’t decide which route to take as this could either help us or hurt us.
Furthermore, development will speed up for advertising including banners, wallpapers, finalized concept shots, logos, et-cetera. With our website complete and no other big projects to slow us down, it’s time to get serious. Sadly, our BBQ parties are now over. Just a reminder, if you have any downloads you’d like to submit to see if we include it when our downloads page launches, feel free to send it to cairoteam [at] cairoshell.com.
With this news, I hope to begin posting regular updates and keep the community informed on our progress. We know it’s been tough to stick it out, but really, I know I speak for the entire team when I say “Thank you.” We are here for all of you, just as we hope you are here for us.
Welcome to our newly re-designed website!
In the coming weeks you will notice a few tweaks here and there, but the most noticeable additions will be the inclusion of our new downloads page and the detailed pages for each feature. It’s worth noting that the downloads page is fully functional, but currently lacks enough downloads to be worth adding. If you have any downloads you’d like to submit to see if they are featured on the site, we want to hear from you. Downloads can include wallpapers, icons, banners, PSD files, logos, etc.
Additionally, you will find our new forum design. Please report all bugs and comments (for the rest of the site as well) ASAP. If you enjoy our site as much as we do (and hope you do) share the forums with your friends so we can really create a wonderful community.
As always, thanks for the support.
-Cairo Team
Over 1000 people from over thirty countries have visited our site since it went live less than a week ago!
We are very excited at the response to our project and we want to thank everyone for their support, patience, and praise. The whole team is extremely grateful and we hope to continue our success in the coming months.
Happy 1000!
- Cairo Team
Feel free to stop by our new forums. Make them your own!
If there are any problems, just a reminder that the site will be going through a period of bug fixes and updates in the next week or two (minus additions). Also, stay tuned for an update coming in the near future. =)
Just a quick update folks:
*FIXED* We are in the process of fixing an IE7 bug which creates two headers on the News page.
Also updated is the background header for the main navigation and the secondary banner. The site is now much more inviting.
In the meantime, our forum is being completed as soon as possible and will be up within the next few days. Myself and the rest of the team look forward to being able to share our community discussions as a springboard for your thoughts, questions, and comments.
As always, thank you for the continued support.
The past few days Ryan has been working vigorously to get the site up. You will notice a few changes over the course of the next few days as we are still working on a few things. The features page is empty for now, the top header bg is missing our slogan, and there are a few bugs to be fixed. In addition, many of the images are temporary and will be replaced with more appropriate, up-to-date items.
We are also contemplating adding a forum. Any thoughts?
Thanks for visiting and welcome.
EDIT: We will be adding a forum so that we can really focus on our website as the hub of our project. Look for that, along with the aforementioned fixes and additions, coming soon.
