Update 12-29-07: ALPHA NEWS

Dear Cairo Community,

We hope to have an alpha available for select testers within the next 6 weeks. Following a primary testing period we hope to release a more refined alpha, perhaps even a beta build for all interested. The entire team is going to be pushing full steam ahead. We all appreciate your support thus far.

In other news, we have near final working concepts (our developers will be using these for reference as the builds progress) of our ‘Start’ menu replacement and file browser. At this time, we are still experimenting with UI elements and would love to get some initial feedback.

Cairo Start-Bar

Features:

Resizeable menu window.

Drag and Drop organization into categories.

Easy access to applications, favorite system locations, control panel, and Pyramid (working name–Cairo’s integration/search system).

We are looking into a way of placing customized PNGs on the bottom right corner (’user picture’) as well as allowing full customization of our UI. As with our plugin system, you will make Cairo look how you desire.

Cairo Explorer

Features:

Easy access to favorite system locations, devices, shared (network items) and the Windows folder tree (activated by hover or click for easy file transfer).

Four different file views: carousel/’coverflow,’ details, icon, and virtual file folders (file grouping).

Live file previews.

New data pages: data is grouped by ‘page’ to eliminate scrollbars. Clicking the arrows reveals the next set of data with a smooth and quick fade animation. Jump to a page or letter to quickly locate an item.

Settings button provides easy access to frequent tasks (c/paste, select all, refresh, delete, new folder/shortcut, and explorer preferences) and saves space.

File search and other standard functionality currently in the Windows Explorer.

Cairo Desktop Update

Welcome to the Revolution.

Best wishes,
The Cairo Team
